I thought the sky was weeping but its tears were blood
The sky is bleeding, we must fear the flood

Life has enough drama as it is but it seems people are innately attracted to it.  Without it, life is boring.  With it, life is miserable.  Damned if you do, damned if you don't. Now, that's dramatic.  How else can you explain the unmatched popularity of soap operas.  It's not like these tv shows have anything to offer in terms of values or will teach you how to deal with your problems. People just find it entertaining and probably pleasing that somebody's life could be so dramatic, and that they're not as miserable as they think they are.  It's sort of a perverse kind of affirmation.

Affirmation is a wonderful thing.  Because people don't have confidence, they need affirmation.  When they get the amount of affirmation required, they get the confidence to do whatever it was they wanted to do.  It also follows that the less confident you are about something, the more affirmation you require.  It's simple. It's human nature to jump into the bandwagon, and there's certainly nothing wrong with it.  Unless of course everyone on the bandwagon is wrong in the first place.  Sort of like those animals that jump of a cliff to kill themselves - obviously if your friends started jumpin off a cliff you'd have to second guess what they were doing.

A final message to an Angel

October 23, 2006

Dear Angel,

More seconds must have passed between now and the last time we spoke than there are hairs on my head.  It surely must have been so long because I can neither recall the meaning nor the reasons for our last exchange, or, for that matter, the cause of our parting.  Certainly, it makes no sense to reminisce on poignant memories, because it only makes you hark back to things that were purposely forgotten.

However, if there is one thing I can recall, it is the rose – that thing which you so ironically used to symbolize the end of a love affair.  Truly, nothing could be more worthy of being remembered.  You certainly had a flair for flamboyance. Anyway, I mustn’t dwell on this lest I begin to wander off to even more memories.

Looking back, these things now merely cause giggles rather than the shudders they used to create.  If we could speak now, we will surely burst out laughing at all our stupid mistakes, our immaturity and, most of all, our lack of foresight.  Ironic that what once created tears in our eyes, will make smiles on our faces.

And so, I bid you goodbye once again with this one final letter.  I wish you all the best.  Rest assured that more seconds than there are stars in the sky must pass between us before I will completely forget, but before that time comes you will find yourself another Angel.

Sincerely

Angel

Script: Continuation, drift into second scene, monologuing

October 17, 2006

I know and probably have heard or read every moral lesson and story ever to be told and written.  But funny things these morals are, just like people, you can’t just know them.  You can memorise them all you want but it’s simply not going to make you a saint.  I bet every goddamn murderer out there was told at one point in his life that it was wrong to kill and yet he did it anyway.  Just proves how stubborn we human beings are.  We gotta learn from experience.  No wonder history keeps repeating itself, man always wants to try things that in the past failed just to satisfy his curiosity of “what if.”  Persistence and perseverance, they call it and yet when they fail just as their predecessors had failed, we call it stupid.

Another funny thing with people, no matter how cruel the world was to them, as soon as things get a little better, they start to forget.  They forget how lucky they are, how thankful they should be and they begin to neglect those which before they could not even afford, and take for granted those things they used to have which gave them the strength to continue  Truly no one knows what one has until loses it.  Even more true that no one knows what one has until one loses it again.

Script: Opening lines, voice over, deep haggard voice

October 10, 2006

When you’re a person like I am and bad things happen in your life, sometimes you just gotta say, “big fucking deal.”  It’s this kind of attitude that makes you cringe when you look at somebody who does nothing but complain about this and that when his life couldn’t be better, so you wanna just say to that person, “man, you’re life isn’t messed up, you are.” It seems easy enough to shrug your shoulders and accept the cards you were dealt, but sometimes it takes a piece of you, or manages to slice a chunk off and you’re less of a person than you were before.  So, sometimes you just wanna reboot yourself – to, you know, reload the system, refresh your soul.  Usually a little conversation, a little time with good old friends, maybe over a few cold drinks will buy you a little break, maybe cut you some extra slack, and tide you over the next couple of days.  But sometimes, that just isn’t enough and you need something stronger, and the good old ways aren't enough because you need to be reborn, to be rebuilt from the ground up.  It’s like going to a bar for drinks and the one you have just doesn’t have that kick, just doesn’t hit the spot.  So now, what do you do? It doesn’t look like there’s any easy way of going about it, there's no cure for the sickness, no water to quench your thirst.  That could only mean that you’re fucked. And you can’t be un-fucked or de-fucked in any way.

AVP

October 4, 2006

I got my Assistant Vice President title last month, effective September 1.  It sounds like a mega event and all, but it was actually just a re-titling exercise.  So, in effect, it's still the same position with the same responsibilities and, unfortunately, the same salary but just a different, albeit more resounding, title attached to it.
